Diwali 2016

October 29, 2016 @ 4:30 pm - 11:55 pm

Diwali, or Deepavali, is the most widely celebrated Hindu festival across all of India as well as across the world. Often referred to as the festival of lights, Diwali commemorates the time when Lord Rama returned to India from Sri Lanka after slaying the demon king Ravana.  Out of gratitude and devotion, the people lit Lord Rama’s path back home with earthen lamps – a tradition which is still observed today.

Diwali is celebrated in many ways, most notably by wearing new and colorful clothes, performing Lakshmi Puja, bursting fire-crackers, making delicious Indian sweets and of course, lighting lots of lamps and asking God’s blessings to bestow enlightenment and dispel the darkness within and without.

Please join us for Diwali 2016 celebrations where we will gather as family and celebrate this auspicious festival.  We will have a lamp lighting ceremony where each person who wishes to can light a lamp for peace.  Make sure you come dressed in your most colorful clothing!
